PITTSFIELD, M.A. (NEWS10) — Pittsfield is planning to bring ice skating back to the city with a new ice skating rink, but the project comes as leaders also debate how public spaces are used.

This portable ice skating rink will be placed in Clapp Park. The idea came from project co-creator Alex Regan who has always come here as a kid.

“I grew up in New Jersey, but grew up coming to Berkshires and specifically coming to Pittsfield to watch the Pittsfield Mets when I was a kid and having great memories since childhood of being here," said Regan.

Regan knew the Pittsfield community used to do a lot of ice skating on area lakes and ponds, but the stability of that ice has been affected by global warming, making wintertime ice skating less safe. That's why they came up with a more effective m
