GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - TV20 sat down with David Jolly, a former congressman running in the Democratic Primary to be the next governor of the state of Florida, as he campaigned in Gainesville on Friday. This week, former state House Speaker Paul Renner entered the Republican Primary for the governor’s seat.
Jolly, who left his job as an MSNBC contributor, explained he was a Republican and left the party to be an independent for several years before becoming a Democrat.
“I do think the economy should work for everybody, the government has a role in our lives, and everyone should be welcome,” said Jolly. “To me, we have an opportunity in a governor’s race to reset a toxic division, the partisanship of past races, and I frankly think we’re living through now.”
