In 2013, horror fans were gifted with one of the best supernatural horror films in quite some time when The Conjuring hit the big screen, courtesy of director James Wan. The movie was effectively chilling and suspenseful in all the right ways while bolstering incredible lead performances from Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who were tasked with bringing paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to life. Everything came together in a way that felt fresh, and after the film's financial success, sequels and a universe of spin-offs followed.
