SURRY -- The Toddy Pond Association is working to educate stakeholders on an issue that is quite literally outside their front door.

After the new owners of the former Verso Paper Mill announced plans to abandon three dams they owned, including one on Toddy Pond, property owners have been hard at work to protect their beloved waterfront.

They're encouraging members of the four towns surrounding the lake: Surry, Blue Hill, Orland, and Penobscot, to vote on November 4 to approve a measure establishing a management team to take care of the dam.

Directors say it's vital to keep the dam in Toddy Pond, fearing loss of water levels, damage to the ecosystem and a dip in the local economy.
