LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan is once again commenting in opposition to the 430-acre Origin Park project and continuing to double down on his efforts to block the removal of the Providence Mill Dam.

After 14-year-old Andre Edwards, Jr. drowned at the dam, the mayor placed rock fill without state approval at its base. Mayor Gahan said the rock-fill was placed at the base of the dam for “emergency maintenance” to eliminate the hydraulic roller effect created by the dam . The state did not authorize the rock fill, and the action has led to a new legal fight between Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources and the City of New Albany.
