An 18-year-old Fort Leonard Wood soldier was fatally injured on Friday while training on a rifle range.

The soldier was pronounced dead at the site around 10:33 a.m. by General Lenoard Wood Army Community Hospital medical personnel, according to a news release from Fort Leonard Wood.

The soldier was from the state of California and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment. Fort Leonard Wood said the identity of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

No other soldiers or cadres were injured, according to the news release.

The incident is currently being investigated by Fort Leonard Wood Law Enforcement Division and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division.
