A LaPorte County state lawmaker who pleaded guilty last month to misdemeanor driving while intoxicated no longer will play a key role in crafting Indiana's criminal statutes.
State Sen. Mike Bohacek, R-Michiana Shores, received a one-year suspended jail sentence for driving in Michigan City on Jan. 24 with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.283% or nearly four times the legal limit of 0.08%, records show.
Following Bohacek's conviction, Senate President Rod Bray, R-Martinsville, removed the three-term senator from his seat on the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law, which evaluates all proposals for new or revised criminal statutes on behalf of the entire Senate.
