The Evergreen school board this afternoon unanimously adopted a resolution to compel striking classified employees back to work .

“It’s unfortunate we find ourselves here,” Evergreen Public Schools board member Ginny Gronwoldt said. “The goal is to get students back in the classrooms.”

Evergreen paraeducators, bus drivers, security and maintenance staff went on strike Aug. 26, delaying the first day of school. The union rejected the district’s “final offer” in a Thursday vote.

The resolution “directs the district’s legal counsel to take all lawful steps necessary to terminate the strike, including injunctive relief, monetary damages, or other appropriate remedies. Legal counsel is specifically authorized to bring suit against any individual employee participating in the strike.”
