CHICAGO — As President Donald Trump threatens to deploy the National Guard in Chicago and intensify immigration enforcement in the city, residents in the Austin neighborhood have mixed feelings about the potential solutions to the neighborhood's persistent problems.
City data shows homicides in Chicago are down more than 30 percent this year compared to 2024, and shootings have dropped almost 40 percent. But in Austin so far this year, there have been 37 homicides, making it the city’s most violent neighborhood -- by far.
