Mental health issues are suspected after Vancouver Police made an arrest Friday of a strange stranger attack.

Just after 6 a.m on Friday, a 31-year-old woman was walking downtown near West Pender St. and Beatty St. when she encountered a man, naked, on top of a parked car. The suspect began to yell, ran at the victim and knocked her to the ground, then urinated on her.

Bystanders came to her aid and called authorities, and restrained the man until VPD officers arrived. The 20-year-old was arrested, and taken to hospital under the Mental Health Act, where he remains in secure custody.

Police will forward a report to Crown counsel for consideration of criminal charges.
