CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Students at one high school in Hiawatha are dedicating their community service efforts to the victims of the Minneapolis school shooting.

The City View High School students were just one of thousands of other students across the country for a National Walkout.

The students are protesting gun violence and pushing for an assault weapons ban.

The City View High School students’ efforts were in honor of the two children who died in the Minneapolis school shooting last week.

“It broke my heart,” student Kiaya Fortner said.

When Fortner learned that students across the country were participating in the National Walkout, she wanted to take part.
