The repaving of the runway at the Whitehorse international airport is now complete.
Representatives of various levels of government assembled on the tarmac at the airport to commemorate the project.
According to the Yukon government, the rebuilding project included reconstruction of the airport’s main runway, new approach lighting, upgraded taxiways and improved drainage and safety systems.
The project began in 2023, per Highways and Public Works Minister Nils Clarke.
There is still some work to be completed, according to a news release from the Yukon government. That work includes completion of the airside service road, storm drainage work near the parallel runway and final grading work, per Krysten Johnson, who works in communications for the Department of Highways and Public Works.
