ASHEBORO, N.C. — What started as a quick oil change before a family vacation turned into a months-long dispute for Kelly and Jamie Allen of Asheboro.
Kelly said the trouble began shortly after a family trip to the beach.
“When I went to start the car up, it was knocking bad,” he recalled. Moments later, his vehicle broke down in the driveway.
A check under the hood revealed the cause — no oil. A dealership later determined the drain plug had been overtightened and stripped during the oil change, causing the engine to fail.
The couple returned to the shop responsible, but for more than six weeks they said their calls were ignored.
“They kept putting us off, putting us off,” Jamie said.
With the cost of a new engine on the line, they contacted News 2 for help. Once the station got invo
