If you’re a public transit obsessive looking to hang out with like-minded folks, poring over bus schedules and dreaming about one day BARTing to Sonoma, a series of free events in September were made for you.

Seamless Bay Area and San Francisco Transit Riders, two safe streets advocacy groups, have organized a handful of quirky, accessible ways to celebrate the importance of public transit to local communities. Book clubs, museums, and the region’s leading transit agencies, including BART and AC Transit, are all part of the festivities.

The Transit Month Bay Area website lists 76 transit-themed events across the region’s nine counties this month.
