UK tourists visiting the Canary Islands are being warned of an "intense spell" of "stormy" weather heading to the archipelago early next week.

The stormy conditions have been forecast by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which provides medium-range forecasts between five and ten days ahead.

Meteorologists have described the scenario as “complex and difficult to predict”, warning residents and holidaymakers to keep a close eye on updates in the coming days.

The unsettled weather is expected to peak on Monday (September 8) or Tuesday (September 9) when thunderstorms are most likely, reports Spanish news site Canarian Weekly.
