MACON, Ga. — Macon-Bibb County is taking a major step toward addressing overcrowding and improving conditions at its jail , as officials move forward with plans for a new medical annex.
According to Mayor Lester Miller, a selection committee finalized its recommendation Friday to hire an architectural firm for the project. The committee includes Miller; Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Michael Scarbary; River Edge Behavioral Health CEO Cass Hatcher; and SPLOST project manager Clay Murphey.
The name of the selected firm will not be released until later this month, when the recommendation is presented to the county commission for a vote during a special-called meeting on Sept. 23.
