LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Justice Department announced on Friday that it has reached an agreement with the Arkansas Division of Corrections (ADOC) to provide necessary medical care and mobility services to disabled inmates at ADOC’s Ouachita River Unit prison facility in Malvern, Arkansas.
The ADOC unanimously approved the agreement during a public Board of Corrections meeting on Wednesday.
As said in a news release from the Justice Department, ADOC will do the following as per the agreement:
Remove barriers to access for inmates with mobility disabilities in different areas of the prison, including cells, toilet rooms, showers, medical facilities, and dining halls.
Make sure the shower water is cool enough to avoid scalding paralyzed inmates who cannot feel their skin burning.
