WASHINGTON — A 16-year old boy from the District will remain in custody of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, according to Judge Charles Willoughby Jr.

WUSA9 is not identifying the boy due to his age.

Prosecutors said the teen posted a picture of two guns to social media with the caption, "on my way to school." That post prompted law enforcement to get a search warrant. Upon searching the boy's home, authorities found guns.

The boy's mother was virtually present in the courtroom Friday for her son's first court appearance, while the defense attorney asked that the teen be allowed to step down to a youth shelter house. Attorney Hillman noted that it was his client's first interaction with the law.
