FINANCIAL DISTRICT, Manhattan (PIX11) – People get around the city in different ways.
Some pedestrian areas and car-free corridors have been created in parts of the boroughs.
But some neighbors in the Financial District are wondering about plans for their area.
Workers, tourists, and residents mix and move along streets and sidewalks known for being narrow.
Fred, an uptown resident, said he feels more comfortable walking in the middle of the street due to the crowds on the sidewalk.
Councilmember Christopher Marte represents the district and Lower Manhattan neighborhoods.
"I think a pedestrian plan will let us know what could work and can’t work in the area," Marte said.
Neighbors have already drafted a proposal with maps outlining possible streets to pedestrianize or limit vehicles
