LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids announced the birth of a pygmy hippo calf to first-time parents Penelope and Jahari on Friday.
This is the first pygmy hippo born at the west Michigan zoo.
The 11-pound baby was born on Sept. 3 and doesn’t have a name yet.
According to John Ball Zoo, pygmy hippos are an endangered species, with fewer than 2,500 in the wild.
