MADISON (WKOW) — The City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is set to begin a Williamson Street test project on September 9. This initiative will remove peak-hour travel lanes on Williamson Street, with the goal of enhancing safety.

27 News reported when the decision was approved by Madison's Transportation Commission , and on crashes into area businesses, including Mother Fool's Coffeehouse.

The test was developed after public discussion. New signage will be installed, and changes will be in place by midday Tuesday, September 9.

During the test, Williamson Street will have one lane of traffic in both directions at all times. On-street parking will remain available at all times too, barring a new Thursday parking restriction will be implemented for maintenance activities.
