New York State’s energy future is generating intense interest.

And there are plenty of opinions on the best way forward.

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration said it remains committed to making the state more reliant on renewables. But it has scaled back how soon it believes some of those targets can be achieved, and acknowledges fossil fuels will remain in the energy mix for years to come.

Environmental groups are urging the administration to stay the course on electrification and curbing emissions, to combat climate change. Some of them are dismayed by Hochul’s support for additional nuclear power as part of the solution for meeting energy needs.
