Some of Fort Wayne’s most pressing challenges are shared by communities across the country: A housing shortage, aging infrastructure and the expiration of federal financial support provided during the pandemic.
Those were the findings of a report released by the National League of Cities, which represents 2,700 U.S. cities and towns. Although Fort Wayne doesn’t pay dues on its own, it belongs to Accelerate Indiana Municipalities, which is a member.
The 2025 State of the Cities report compiles information from 53 annual State of the City addresses delivered early this year by mayors, more than 230 survey responses by city officials and public opinion gleaned from social media posts.
