A fire in the 600 block of Colorado Avenue in La Junta has been ruled as suspicious while law enforcement conducts interviews, according to a news release from the city's fire department Friday.

The La Junta Fire Department responded to the fire on Thursday around 7 p.m. with a report of a tree on fire. The release stated upon arriving it was upgraded to a working structure fire at 618 Colorado Ave., a known abandoned residence.

The garage on the south side of the house was fully engulfed and spread into the residence and backyard, which threatened a nearby apartment building.
