A UK couple say they are transforming an Italian farmhouse into their dream home for £400,000 – half of what it would cost to buy in Britain.

Jack and Mandy Breet, both in their late forties, moved to England from South Africa in 2011 – but the couple had always dreamed of retiring in Italy .

After two years, they found a three-storey manor in the quiet of village of Narni, in Umbria, central Italy, purchasing it for just €115,000 (£100,000) in 2024.

Once the €350,000 (£300,000) renovation is complete, the Breets say they will have a property with a pool which would be worth £850,000 back in Grimscote, Northamptonshire, where they live currently.
