HOUSTON — For 66 years, Jerome and Agnes Bourgouis have shared a life, a home and a song here in Houston.

Every anniversary, he serenades his beautiful bride with their special song, "Wind Beneath My Wings."

That tradition was nearly lost two years ago when Jerome was diagnosed with vocal cord atrophy, a condition that threatened to silence him forever.

For the 91-year-old Army veteran and former member of the Houston Symphony chorus, music has always been his sanctuary.

During the pandemic, he sang from the balcony of his retirement community to lift the spirits of neighbors.

So the threat of losing his voice was devastating.
