COWETA — Brock Heilmann and Legend Ellis had yet to taste victory over rival Wagoner during their high school careers. That changed for both Coweta juniors on Friday night.
Heilmann rushed for a game-high 129 yards and scored a touchdown. Ellis, the Tiger quarterback, accounted for all three TDs in a 21-7 win over the Class 4A No. 4 Bulldogs in the season opener at Tiger Field.
“We went to their place last year and they put a whipping on us,” said Ellis, who had 103 passing yards, including TD passes of 46 and 18 yards. “We came back this year and got them back. We’re happy about it and happy to have the rivalry trophy back here.”
