HAMPTON – One sign of what could be a good high school football team is the ability to overcome adversity, and still be able to walk off the field with a win.

That was the case Friday night as Winnacunnet opened its Division I season at home against Seacoast rival Spaulding at Alumni Field.

The Warriors fumbled the ball on two of their first three possessions, had five turnovers in total, completed just one pass on the night, didn’t reach the end zone until there were 2.6 seconds in the first half, and lost two starters due to injury.

Yet, despite all those obstacles, Winnacunnet, which ended a three-year playoff drought last season, did enough to earn a 24-13 win in the season-opening game for both teams before a capacity crowd.
