A man serving life in prison for the 2015 ambush killing of his ex-girlfriend in Lancaster County recently asked a judge to grant him compassionate release as he faces a terminal medical condition.

Judge Jeffrey Wright shot down Randall Shreiner’s request, however, telling the 58-year-old the idea he can’t get the treatment he needs in state prison “defies logic‚" according to a Friday news release from the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Shreiner’s attorney filed a petition for release in July, telling the judge he had stage five kidney disease and six months to live. If he could be released into his wife’s care, he’d be able to get the medical attention he needed, his attorney said.
