High street giants such as Poundland, River Island and Marks & Spencer are preparing to shut stores across the UK this month. The Centre for Retail Research forecasts that 17,349 shops could close in 2025, resulting in approximately 201,953 retail job losses.

The surge in energy bills, increased rents, and higher National Insurance contributions are largely responsible for the growing number of struggling retailers.
