ONA -- If fans thought lightning was fast Friday night, they should've seen Capital.

The Cougars (1-1) used superior speed, big plays and a stout defense to defeat Cabell Midland and its bruising running game 27-13 in high school football at the Castle.

"Football-wise, this is the best thing that's happened to us in a long time," Capital coach Jon Carpenter said. "It's hard to get ready for what they do. We usually have racehorses, and they have workhorses. To see our guys fight like that where they're bigger than us, that means our guys are doing their jobs. They're buying in."

Capital appeared early to make the game a mismatch, scoring on its first two possessions. After a brief Cabell Midland rally, the Cougars won fairly easily.
