Food pantries often include cans and boxes full of non-perishable food items in their distributions to families at risk of hunger and malnutrition..

Included among them is the Interfaith Food Pantry , Morris County’s largest provider of emergency and supplemental groceries to local residents in need. A special food distribution held on Sept. 5, however, skipped the shelf items in favor of an array of fresh late-summer produce entirely sourced from Garden State farms.

"Pretty much everything here was picked yesterday," said Executive Director Carolyn Lake said, pointing to bushels of corn, cantaloupe, cucumber, eggplant, watermelon and more.
