Two events in Bremerton will commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, now known as Patriot Day, 24 years after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon.

The first comes on Sunday, Sept. 7, held at the Marvin Williams Center on Park Avenue in Bremerton. The 9/11 SOS Commemoration, as the annual event is known, will be from 9:11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event pays tribute to first responders and this year will also recognize the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina , which struck New Orleans in 2005. The commemoration, which is focused on community preparedness and public safety, will include a presentation from the Kitsap Department of Emergency Management and remarks from elected leaders.
