A two-alarm fire destroyed an empty Milneburg house Friday evening, requiring 47 firefighters to bring it under control, the New Orleans Fire Department said. No injuries were reported
Firefighters responded to the fire in the 6000 block of Painters Street at around 7:59 p.m., where they found a single-family home engulfed in flames. NOFD struck a second alarm at 8:07 p.m. A total of 47 firefighters battled the blaze to keep it from spreading to houses on three sides of the fire. Two vehicles were burned, and houses at 6100 Painters Street and 2524 Madrid Street sustained moderate damage, including melted siding, NOFD said.
The fire was reported under control at 9:18 p.m. Its cause is under investigation.
