A mum who struggled to survive on just £7 a day with four children after being hit by the household benefit cap has described how her life changed dramatically overnight after it was lifted.
Sally Worrall, 35, has experienced life as a mum-of-four both with and without the benefit cap which limits the amount of benefits people can get , something she said was “barbaric and should be scrapped”.
Ms Worrall, who lives in Southampton, became a single mother when her marriage ended leaving her with four young children – including nine-month-old twins.
She found herself hit with the household benefit cap which means parents, whether they are single parents or part of a couple, can only claim a maximum amount of benefits a week. Currently, this is £423.46 a week.
