SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified a man who died riding a moped after being struck by an unknown vehicle in Sumter County on Saturday morning.

Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened early Saturday morning along Broad Street west of Sumter. Bennett said a 2020 Honda moped and an unknown vehicle were heading east on Broad Street when the unknown vehicle struck the moped and left. The rider of the moped, later identified as 62-year-old Gregory Davis of Sumter County, died at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it is still investigating the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina.
