Sudbury’s job market continued to soften in August, Statistics Canada numbers indicate.

The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury was 6.4 per cent as of August 2025, up 0.7 per cent from the previous month.

The unemployment rate stood 4.1 per cent below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average, StatsCan said.

There were 700 fewer full-time jobs in August 2025 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 700 part-time positions, this led to an unchanged number of total jobs in August.

However, full-time employment was still down 1,400 jobs from the peak in June 2025, the numbers show.
