TOWN OF NORFOLK, New York (WWNY) - An early Saturday morning head-on crash kills one person and sends another person to the hospital.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says around 4:45am two vehicles collided on State Route 56 between County Route 40 and State Route 310 in the Town of Norfolk.

Police say the driver of one vehicle died at the scene. The other driver has minor injuries and was being treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

A portion of State Route 56 was closed for 5 hours as police reconstructed the scene. The road has since reopened.

Responding to the scene in addition to the Sheriff’s Office were the NYS Police, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Louisville Fire Department and NYS Department of Transportation.

Police say more information will be released at a later time.
