PC Leader Tony Wakeham is committing to adding four new ferries in the province should the PCs form the next government, but the transportation minister says that conversations to address the issue are already underway.
Elvis Loveless is just back from a national ferry summit in Hamilton, Ontario where the topic of replacing aging vessel infrastructure was front and centre.
Loveless says the frustration was clear when he met with members of the Bell Island Ferry Users’ Committee, and government already issued a Request for Information earlier this summer to see what’s out there.
He says options are available, but not all are feasible, or affordable.
“I had people email me,” says Loveless, indicating “‘this vessel is available.’ It may be available, but it may not fit in our infrastruct
