New radar speed signs are coming to Winnemucca as part of an effort to improve roadway safety.

The signs are intended to remind drivers of the importance of observing posted speed limits, according to a post from the Winnemucca Police Department on Facebook.

They use real-time technology to display a motorist’s current speed as they approach.

"These radar speed signs are not about enforcement; they are about education and awareness," said the post in part. "Most drivers want to do the right thing. By providing instant feedback, these signs serve as a reminder that speed matters when it comes to safety."

The new signs will be set up in places where speeding has been identified as an issue, like school zones, residential neighborhoods, and high-traffic areas.
