NEW YORK (WKBN) - Former World Series Champion manager and All-Star second baseman Davey Johnson died at the age of 82 on Friday following a long illness.
Johnson played 13 major league seasons with Baltimore, the Atlanta Braves, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs from 1965-78.
During his playing career, the four-time All-Star won three Gold Glove awards.
Following his playing career, he later managed the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals during a span from 1984-2013.
He led the Mets to a World Series Championship in 1986.
Johnson was named American League Manager of the Year in 1997 when Baltimore won the division.
