A wildfire was discovered in Strathcona Provincial Park on Friday, and has been deemed out of control by the BC Wildfire Service.

The wildfire sparked near Buttle Lake, a popular camping area in B.C.’s oldest provincial park.

Just before 4 p.m. on Friday, BCWS reported as burning out of control at 0.3 hectares.

The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.

BCWS has assigned one initial attack crew and one helicopter to the wildfire.

“Fires are not permitted anywhere or at any time (all seasons) within Strathcona Park, except in authorized and provided BC Parks steel fire rings. This regulation is in effect at all times of the year. No open fires are allowed in any backcountry areas,” states BC Parks.
