NEW LISKEARD — A trio of power-play markers helped the Cubs get past the Timmins Majors 3-2 in a penalty-filled Great North U18 League exhibition contest at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena, Friday night.
The Cubs scored the first period’s lone goal, an Ethan Ethier man-advantage marker.
Loic Doire added to the Cubs’ advantage midway through the middle frame.
The Majors finally got on the scoreboard shortly past the midway mark of the third period when he netted a shorthanded goal.
But Emerik Bray’s power-play goal, the game-winning tally, with 1:34 remaining in regulation, restored the Cubs’ two goal advantage.
Zachary Robinson’s goal with 12 seconds remaining on the clock pulled the Majors a little closer, but it proved to be too little, too late.
