SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office launched the I.G.N.I.T.E. program on Thursday, Sept. 4, making them the fifth site in Alabama to host the program.
I.G.N.I.T.E. stands for Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the program is through the National Sheriffs’ Association. Its mission is to transform lives through education, rehabilitation and second chances.
The program provides comprehensive education, job certification and post-incarceration work opportunities and support for incarcerated individuals.
The Shelby County I.G.N.I.T.E. program marks the 29th program nationwide.
