DETROIT -- Veteran Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Cobb is shutting down his rehab and will not pitch again in 2025.

Cobb told reporters on Saturday that he plans to undergo hip resurfacing surgery.

Cobb, who turns 38 next month, signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Tigers last December but never pitched in a big-league game. He’s battled pain, received injections in both hips, and gone on two lengthy minor-league rehab assignments in an effort to contribute to the Tigers down the stretch .

But he decided in the midst of his most recent appearance with Triple-A Toledo on Sept. 2 that he could no longer continue.
