Clemson’s first game back since a gutting, season-opening loss to LSU on Saturday, Aug. 30 hasn’t gone as planned thus far, with the Tigers falling behind Troy 7-0 after giving up a five-play, 75-yard scoring drive capped off by a 44-yard touchdown pass.
Thankfully for coach Dabo Swinney and his team, they’ll get a little break to try to sort things out.
Clemson’s Week 2 matchup against Troy at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina has been delayed due to lightning in the area. Here’s what you need to know about the stoppage in play and when the game might resume:
Clemson vs Troy weather updates
With Clemson unexpectedly trailing Troy by a touchdown with 10:43 remaining in the first quarter Saturday, lightning was detected within eight miles of Memorial Stadium.
The game was stopped, with teams going back to the locker room and fans encouraged to leave their seats and move to a “safe location.”
At 5 p.m. ET, about 90 minutes after the game was initially stopped, it was announced that the game would resume at 5:20 p.m.
At the time of the delay, Troy had a first-and-10 at its own 32-yard line, having forced a Clemson punt. Here are the latest updates on weather around Clemson and when the game is expected to continue:

5:20 p.m.: After a roughly 90-minute delay, Clemson and Troy have resumed play, with the Tigers starting at their own 32-yard line.
5 p.m.: Clemson's game against Troy will resume at 5:20 p.m., according to the stadium public address announcer. The stadium has reopened, with fans coming back inside, according to Chapel Fowler of The State.
4:53 p.m.: Strong thunderstorms are expected to continue in north-central Anderson and central Pickens Counties in South Carolina until 5:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
By the end of that storm, more may soon be on the way.
4:33 p.m.: It looks like more nasty weather is on the way, which could delay the game even more, according to a forecast shared by meteorologist Lew Turner out of Jacksonville, Florida.
4:15 p.m.: There's a severe thunderstorm warning in effect in Clemson until 4:45 p.m., with 60-mile-per-hour winds and penny-sized hail reported.
