Tropical storms and hurricanes are known to be destructive, even deadly, in North Carolina from the coast to the low-lying areas along our rivers and even as far inland as Raleigh and Durham.

Every North Carolina resident and visitor should be weather aware – tracking the tropics for what is coming and preparing your home and family to weather any storm.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

What's active in the tropics?

As of Friday, Aug. 8, we continue to watch a couple of areas, but there are currently no threats to North Carolina.

There is an area of weak low pressure several hundred miles off the North Carolina coast. It is moving northeast away from North Carolina and has a 10% chance of development in the next two days.
