The Pride Worcester Festival came to a halt on Saturday due to severe weather in the area.
At 3:30 p.m., the Worcester Police Department issued a phone alert for a severe thunderstorm warning, advising people to take shelter immediately. At that same time, people could be seen leaving the Worcester common, picking up their belongings as lightning flashed in the sky.
David Conner, Pride Worcester’s director of development, told MassLive Saturday that people will shelter until at least 5:30 p.m. He said it was unclear whether the festival would continue on Saturday, adding that it was dependent on the weather.
The festival kicked off in force earlier on Saturday with a march from Femme Bar to the main area on Franklin Street. The sky was cloudy but some sunshine was present.
