Rail passengers are facing delays of up to two hours or cancellations on the west coast mainline out of Manchester following an incident on the line to Stockport earlier this evening (September 6).

Police officers were spotted at Levenshulme railway station where they were captured telling people the station was closed at around 7pm.

Tonight it emerged there were delays of up to 120 minutes and some cancellations on Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and East Midlands Railway between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport 'due to emergency services dealing with an incident', according to travel information service Inrix.

"Many services are cancelled or diverting," it said.
