With a new version of the 1986 horror movie Witchboardhitting theaters, a revisit of the surprisingly quirky original might be in order. Written and directed by Kevin Tenney, the mind behind perhaps an even bigger cult horror favorite, 1988's Night of the Demons, the film is theoretically about a young couple in love whose lives are turned upside down by a cursed Ouija board. But the viewer quickly realizes that Tenney's Witchboard is really more of a quirky "buddy movie" about the protagonist and his long-lost childhood best friend — inexplicably pushing the progressively demon-possessed girlfriend, played by '80s icon Tawny Kitaen, to the sidelines.
